
When I get them, they have already had time on them and I don't have time to support them when they inevitably fail. Now, for my problems, I am tired of supporting 200 machines that are essentially old from the day I buy them. Always get SSD and 8gb min, but you already know that. You should end up saving money in the long and short run. that way, you can ride those for 2 more years before replacing them.

so, I would recommend finding that lowest generation you will support and buy 2 above. if you're using 6th gen or above, I think you will be fine. Granted, a lot of what I'm seeing out there with problems are 2nd and 3rd gen i5, so I think there is definitely an argument for a generation cutoff. Plus so many apps we use are moving to web based apps. No one has given me a decent argument why buy new for what my people do. New DELLs i5 10th gen 8gb 256ssd 775 with next day onsite I5 4th gen 16gb and 256ssd runs me 300 about with warranty typically new machines are better processors but 8gb ram and base model computers from Dell HP or Lenovo. I have other techs argue with me about the need for new machines. The biggest drain on resources I believe is 20 tabs open in chrome.Īlso we run MSP agent and Sentinal1 which does eat resources. Some clients use a management system for inventory but its basically a skin which pulls info from a server.

I get no complaints from users on these machines. Then if the part is bad or doesn't fix the issue its a waiting game. I did this at my last company and while its nice to have next day support, leading up to the tech coming out is annoying. I like this its easy and don't need to sit with dell support waiting on them to go through the script. If they don't they give me my money back and the hard drive. I buy locally and can bring them in for warranty. Typically I will buy refurbished machines with a warranty.
